BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC defender Phanuel Kavita has been called in to the Rwanda Men’s National Team ahead of a June 5 friendly match against Algeria, the federation announced Wednesday evening.
It is the second time that Kavita has received a call-up by Rwanda, having been a part of the country’s roster for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last November. He was on the bench for a pair of matches, but has yet to officially make his international debut.
After missing time early on in Legion FC’s 2025 season due to injury, Kavita has returned back to match fitness, having appeared in the past four matches and having played the full 90 minutes in three straight. The 32-year-old notched his seventh career goal on May 18 with a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw at Protective Stadium against Detroit City FC.
Kavita’s invitation to the Rwanda camp marks the second international selection for a Legion FC player in the upcoming window. It was announced last week that fellow defender Ramiz Hamouda will take part in a training camp with the United State’s Under-17 Men’s Youth National Team in Spain.
