Scoring the second goal of its playoff-clinching clean sheet against Monterey Bay, Smith makes his second TOTW appearance in Week 31
TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 31 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with Legion FC’s Collin Smith on the roster as a defender and Prosper Kasim on the bench. This is the second week in a row a Legionnaire has earned the League’s Team of the Week honor.
Smith was instrumental in Birmingham’s 2-0 victory over Monterey Bay on Sunday, October 8 that secured a spot for the Black & Gold in the USL Championship Playoffs. The 19-year-old right produced arguably his best performance of the season against Monterey Bay. Playing the full 90-minute game, Smith recorded an impressive 91.9% passing accuracy. Completing 34 out of 36 passes, it was the highest accuracy on both teams. His one shot on target found the back of the net.
Prosper Kasim was named to the Team of the Week bench for his performance, earning himself his second TOTW honor of the season. Kasim supplied the assist to Smith’s 80-minute goal, his sixth assist of the season. Kasim also had an impressive passing accuracy of 90.9%.
Smith’s goal started with Kasim passing a ball out to Smith at the top of the 18-yard box. The 19-year-old skillfully glided past his man-marker with acceleration and hammered the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs with a powerful finish.

Miami FC forward Joaquin Rivas was voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after the El Salvador international led a key comeback victory against the Charleston Battery to keep Miami above the playoff line going to the final day of the regular season. Rivas earned 43 percent of the ballot to claim the award.
The award is Rivas’ second this season, having previously earned Player of the Week honors in Week 24 after recording the club’s first hat trick in the USL Championship. The veteran forward played a key role this past Saturday as he first converted from the penalty spot for his 10th goal of the season and then provided the assist on Michael Salazar’s game-winner with 10 minutes to go as Miami took a 2-1 victory against the Battery.
The Championship’s Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship.
