Detroit, MI – Birmingham Legion FC fell 1-0 to Detroit City FC Saturday night at Keyworth Stadium, with a first-half goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.
Legion controlled much of the possession throughout the night, holding 57.2 percent of the ball and completing 481 passes compared to Detroit’s 352. However, Birmingham was unable to turn its possession into a goal, finishing with six shots and one on target.
Detroit found the breakthrough in the 22nd minute when Kobe Hernández-Foster put the hosts ahead. Hernández-Foster also led Detroit with two chances created and finished the night with the club’s only goal.
Birmingham continued to push for an equalizer as the match progressed, but Detroit’s defense held firm. Legion generated opportunities through Romario Williams and Gevork Diarbian, who each recorded two shots, while Peter-Lee Vassell registered Birmingham’s lone shot on target.
Samuel Shashoua remained heavily involved in the attack throughout the match, leading Legion with 116 touches and 88 completed passes. He also created two chances and completed three successful dribbles.
Despite the result, Birmingham continued to control large portions of the match and finished with 481 total passes, 130 passes in the final third and four corner kicks. Detroit managed just two shots on target, with Jassem Koleilat making one save in goal for the Black and Gold.
Legion pushed for an equalizer late, with Sebastián Saucedo and Tyler Pasher entering the match during the final 25 minutes, but Detroit held on to secure all three points. ” It’s tough but we will learn from this loss and will continue to fight as we prepare for our next match” Coach Heaps says
