St. Petersburg, FL- Birmingham Legion FC fell 4-0 to the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium.
Tampa Bay opened the scoring in the 30th minute after an own goal gave the Rowdies the early advantage. MD Myers doubled Tampa Bay’s lead in the 39th minute, sending Legion into halftime trailing 2-0.
Myers added two more goals early in the second half, scoring in the 56th and 60th minutes to complete his hat trick and put Tampa Bay ahead 4-0.
Despite the scoreline, Birmingham continued to create opportunities throughout the match. Legion finished the night with 17 total shots, including nine blocked attempts, while generating 1.65 expected goals. Peter-Lee Vassell and Tyler Pasher each recorded four shots, while Samuel Shashoua created a team-high three chances. ” We will turn our focus to facing Brooklyn next week.” Coach Heaps says
Shashoua also led Birmingham with 86 touches and completed 57 passes, while Nico Brown completed 42 passes and Peter-Lee Vassell recorded 68 touches.
Jassem Koleilat made three saves for the Black and Gold, including a pair of saves in the second half as Tampa Bay looked to add to its lead.
Legion will now turn its attention to the final stretch of the regular season as Birmingham looks to respond in its next match.
Birmingham is back at Protective Stadium September 23 for an early kickoff vs Brooklyn. Legion will host education night at 11 am as they look to wrap up the regular season.
