BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With eight matches remaining in the 2025 season, Birmingham Legion FC has made a new roster addition in hopes of introducing a new veteran presence with USL Championship experience to the roster in the midst of its push to make the postseason. The club announced on Thursday that it has signed midfielder Peter-Lee Vassell, pending league and federation approval.
“Peter-Lee is an experienced player in our league,” Legion FC CEO and Chief Soccer Officer Jay Heaps. “We are excited to bring him on because he will give the group a different dynamic in our midfield.”
Vassell will be available for selection when Legion FC travels to face FC Tulsa on Saturday.
The 27-year-old from Jamaica is no stranger to the USL-C grind, having logged 42 matches in the league across three different seasons. He returns with Legion FC, having spent 2022 with Hartford Athletic where he provided a goal and three assists. He was with Indy Eleven the season before in 2021 where he enjoyed his best season of his career, bagging three goals to go along with an assist in 708 minutes of action. Vassell also made six appearances for Phoenix Rising FC in 2019.
After beginning his career with Harbour View FC in the Jamaica Premier League where he played from 2017-19, Vassell put himself on the international radar by being invited to the 2019 Major League Soccer Combine after earning Most Valuable Player honors in the Caribbean Combine. He parlayed that into a 2019 MLS SuperDraft selection with Los Angeles FC taking Vassell with the 40th overall pick and he would go on to make six appearances with the club.
Vassell most recently made a return to the Jamaica Premier League where he helped lead Montego Bay United FC to the semifinals of the 2025 playoffs.
The attacking midfielder comes to the Magic City with international expertise as well, having earned 21 caps for the Jamaica Men’s National Team. He burst onto the scene with the Reggae Boyz in 2018 with four goals and a pair of assists across three consecutive matches. He has since added two more goals and assists each with his last appearance for the side coming in 2022.
