Birmingham, ALA (Feb.6, 2024) – Birmingham Legion FC announced today the signing of forward Mohamed Buya Turay, pending league and federation approval.

Turay made his debut for the Legion on January 27 in a preseason friendly against MLS club Atlanta United.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this amazing club and can’t wait to make a positive impact on and off the field,” said Turay.
Turay joins the Legion after a season with Danish Superliga club Odense Boldklub, where he recorded three goals and made 16 appearances. Prior to being with Odense Boldklub, Turay transferred to Sweden’s Allsvenskan club Malmo FF from Chinese Super League Henan Songshan Longmen.
The Sierra Leonean began his career for local club FC Mattia. He opened up his professional career when he signed with Juventus IF, Sweden’s Allsvenskan club in 2014. Throughout his time at Juventus, Buya made 25 appearances and logged 32 goals. Turay quickly rose through the ranks and played for three different clubs in the Swedish tier 2 league, Vasteras Sk, AFC Eskilstuna, and Dalkurd FF between 2014 and 2018.
In 2018 he signed with Belgian Jupiler Pro League club Sint-Truiden and was loaned out to Sweden’s Allsvenskan side Djurgarden IF in 2019. During his time at Djurgarden, Turay made 29 appearances and recorded 15 goals, earning him Allsvenskan’s Golden Boot award. After his loan at Djurgarden, Turay made a move to Chinese Super League Hebei China Fortune in 2020 and later joined Henan Songshan Longmen.
Internationally, Turay was called up to the Sierra Leone National Team for the first time in June 2017. In August 2019, Turay played in both legs of the World Cup Qualifying round against Liberia. In 2020 Turay played in both matches against Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations qualifications, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
