Birmingham falls dramatically on a rainy night in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 9, 2023) – Birmingham Legion FC lost 4-0 against Indy Eleven on a rainy Wednesday night in Indianapolis. Conceding once in the first half and three in the second half, this will be one that the Black & Gold hope to learn from.
Indy opened the scoring up first in the 24th minute. Sebastián Guenzatti put in a header off of a cross from Solomon Asante, who recorded three assists on the night for the home side.
In the second half, play was locked between the two sides until the Eleven scored a chain of goals in the 63rd and 65th minute through counter-attack plays.
“We got caught in transition,” said Head Coach Tommy Soehn on the two back-to-back concessions. “Once you’re down, we were pushing to try to get one back, and we got caught in transition.”
Indy Eleven scored its final goal of the night in the 89th minute.
“Just through and through it wasn’t good enough,” said Soehn. “I mean, the score dictates that all by itself. It’s unacceptable. And we got to dig deep and rectify it.”
Birmingham’s Legionnaires will look to use tonight’s loss as a learning experience, as the Black & Gold head into its final stretch of the season.
“Football can be a cruel game at times,” said veteran Legionnaire Alex Crognale. “We will regroup from this loss and continue to work hard to rebound heading into the final stretch of the season. We know this group can bring more to the table and we will fight to the end.”
