Oakland, CA – Birmingham Legion FC heads west this week, looking to bounce back from a tough 2-1 home loss to Las Vegas Lights FC as the Black and Gold take on Oakland Roots SC at the Oakland Coliseum on Wednesday night.
When: June 17, 2026, at 2 PM CT
Where: Oakland Coliseum
Legion showed plenty of attacking intent against Las Vegas, controlling possession and generating chances throughout the match before Sebastián Saucedo’s late goal nearly sparked a comeback. Despite the result, Birmingham will take encouragement from consecutive matches in which the club created opportunities and continued to show improvement in the final third.
Wednesday’s contest gives Legion another opportunity to gain ground in the Eastern Conference standings as the season reaches its midway point.
Oakland enters the matchup in strong form after earning a 2-0 victory over Las Vegas Lights FC in its most recent league match. The Roots have become one of the toughest teams to break down at home.
Playing at the historic Oakland Coliseum has also provided a boost, with the Roots earning several key results on their home turf this season.
Birmingham’s attack has shown signs of coming alive in recent weeks.
After scoring three goals against Corpus Christi FC and creating 13 shots against Las Vegas, Legion has begun generating more opportunities through players such as Tyler Pasher, Sebastian Saucedo, Ronaldo Damus, and Gevork Diarbian.
Defensively, Birmingham has shown it can be difficult to break down when organized, as evidenced by the clean sheet victory over Corpus Christi just days earlier.
Legion will be returning home to Protective Stadium to host a Father’s Day and Paw Patrol themed night versus Loudoun United FC.
