Brooklyn, N.Y. — Birmingham Legion FC earned a 2-1 road victory over Brooklyn FC on Wednesday night at Maimonides Park, powered by a two-goal performance from Sebastian Tregarthen. After conceding an early goal, Legion responded with two unanswered goals to secure all three points in its penultimate match of the 2026 USL Championship regular season.
Brooklyn opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Malik Pinto found the back of the net, giving the hosts an early advantage. Legion responded quickly, however, as Sebastián Saucedo set up Tregarthen for the equalizer in the 18th minute to bring Birmingham level at 1-1.
The sides entered halftime tied, but Legion found the breakthrough in the second half. Tregarthen struck again in the 63rd minute, completing his brace and giving Birmingham a 2-1 lead. His second goal proved to be the difference as Legion held off Brooklyn for the remainder of the match.
Following the victory, Head Coach Jay Heaps praised the team’s effort and resilience after a quick turnaround from Sunday’s match.
“Good performance from the guys. Quick turnaround from Sunday and we worked extremely hard. It was a tough place to play and excited we were able to come back after falling behind,” said Heaps.
Tregarthen finished with two shots on target, converting both attempts into goals. His performance brought his season total to six goals in 26 appearances, providing another important contribution as Birmingham approaches the end of its campaign.
Goalkeeper Jassem Koleilat also played a key role in the victory, recording two saves as Legion protected its one-goal advantage. Dawson McCartney, Hamady Diop and Seth Antwi each recorded more than 80 touches, helping Birmingham maintain possession and manage the game down the stretch.
Legion finished the night with 55.3% possession and completed 525 passes at an 84.2% accuracy rate. Birmingham’s ability to respond after conceding early and capitalize on its opportunities proved decisive in the road matchup.
With Wednesday’s result, Birmingham has just one match remaining in the 2026 regular season. Legion will look to carry the momentum from its victory over Brooklyn into its season finale as the club closes out its campaign.
