After earning a convincing 3-0 victory over Corpus Christi FC on Wednesday, Birmingham Legion FC returns to USL Championship play Saturday night looking to build momentum against Las Vegas Lights FC at Protective Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 PM CST.
When: Saturday, June 13
Where: Protective Stadium
The win over Corpus Christi marked Legion’s most complete performance of the season, with goals from Sebastián Saucedo, Sebastian Tregarthen, and Samuel McIllhatton while posting a clean sheet.
The Lights arrive in Birmingham searching for their first road victory of the season. Las Vegas has won just once in its last five matches across all competitions and enters the weekend following consecutive scoreless performances against FC Tulsa and Oakland Roots SC.
Birmingham’s midweek victory provided a much-needed boost after a stretch of tightly contested matches. The Black and Gold have been difficult to break down defensively, conceding just four goals across their last five matches in all competitions.
The attack also showed signs of growth against Corpus Christi, with Saucedo continuing his strong run of form and McIllhatton getting on the scoresheet after providing an assist earlier in the match. The performance offered a glimpse of the attacking potential Head Coach Jay Heaps has emphasized throughout the season.
Legion will look to continue that progress Saturday against a Las Vegas side that has scored only three goals in its last five matches and has failed to score in each of its last two outings.
The battle in midfield could determine the outcome. Birmingham’s ability to dictate possession and create chances through players like Gevork Diarbian will be key against a Las Vegas team that often relies on quick transitions and the creativity of Pinzón.
If Legion can establish an early rhythm similar to Wednesday night’s fast start, they will have an opportunity to secure consecutive victories and continue climbing the Eastern Conference standings.
