Legion FC returns to BBVA Field this Friday, September 13, to take on a strong side in Saint Louis FC. Here is what some of the guys had to say about Friday’s contest:
“We’re going to worry about ourselves, but we know we also have to recognize and respect Saint Louis because they’re close behind us,” said #15 Akeem Ward. “They’ve hit a stride and we’ve hit a stride, so it comes down on the day who’s willing to execute, and I think on the day we can get them.”
#12 Eric Avila also commented on the difficulty of Friday’s match by saying, “We’ve been playing a lot of good games and I think this game coming up on Friday is going to be tough. If we want to go somewhere with this team [in the postseason], we need these games and we need to show how we can perform in these situations.”
Prior to their match up with St. Louis, Birmingham put five past Atlanta United 2 for their biggest win in club history. When asked about the biggest takeaways from the match, Head Coach Tom Soehn said, “We had a lot of opportunities in the past to bury teams and we hadn’t done that. I think the last stage of our progression is the attacking aspect: counter attacks, creating chances, now we’re really focusing on that.”
“I think we could have even done a better job within the game (vs. Atlanta United 2), but we came out with five so that’s a real positive. We know with our next set of opponents we’re not going to have as many looks, so we have to be clinical in those moments.”
Saint Louis FC sits only one point behind Legion FC in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings, so Friday’s match has major implications in the fight for a playoff spot. Join us on September 13 as Legion FC look to separate themselves in the race for a spot in the postseason.
