After securing a 1-0 win away from home against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on August 10, Legion FC extended their shutout streak to 465 minutes played without conceding a goal. This is the longest active streak in the USL Championship and the second-longest in the league all year.
While the black and gold’s current streak is the longest active shutout streak in the Championship, the Rowdies lay claim to this season’s longest streak overall after they went 548 minutes without conceding in May. If the boys can continue their outstanding defensive play through the Memphis contest, BHM will be the new owners of the best shutout streak in the league.
Above the Line
Birmingham’s win over Tampa Bay saw them move into 10th place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference, meaning they are now above the playoff line and in a position to continue on to the postseason, with 11 matches left to play.
The black and gold’s fight does not stop, though, considering Saint Louis FC has the same amount of points (26) with a game in hand. On top of that, Bethlehem Steel FC and Loudoun United FC sit three and six points off of Legion FC, respectively, and they are Birmingham’s next two opponents following 901 FC.
For BHM, the fight to stay above the line is far from over.
Keep the Momentum Going
Legion FC has gone six games unbeaten, a streak in which the team has secured six clean sheets, scored seven goals, and won five games. During the unbeaten run, the black and gold has been one of the best sides in the Eastern Conference.
With Memphis coming to town on August 17, BHM will have to keep the momentum going to continue to climb the table. If the boys put in a performance this Saturday that is anything like previous performances, they will have a good chance at smashing Memphis 901 FC.
Kickoff Saturday at BBVA Field is scheduled for 7:00PM - gates will open at 5:30. Get your tickets HERE.
